ZOSI C220 16CH 10×4MP Kit Review: Who It Fits
Who it fits, what you get, and what to check before you buy.
Verdict
The C220 10-camera kit is the one to pick when you want plenty of fixed views now and room for more later. A 16-channel 4K NVR, ten 4MP audio domes and a 4TB drive cover the doors, drive and yard of a typical house, and six channels stay free. Night video is black and white out to 100ft, and alerts focus on people and vehicles. If you'd rather have fewer cameras that turn and follow movement, the C296 pan-tilt kit is the better match.
Planning the install
Sketch where each of the ten domes will go before the box arrives: front door, back door, garage, driveway and the sides of the house usually take most of them. Each dome needs one Ethernet run back to the recorder, and its 90° view works best mounted under an eave and angled slightly down, so faces fill the frame rather than the tops of heads.
What it is
A wired PoE system: one recorder, ten dome cameras and a pre-installed hard drive. Each camera connects to the recorder with a single Ethernet cable that carries both power and video, so the mounts don't need outlets. It is not a pan-tilt kit and it doesn't accept WiFi cameras.
Feature walkthrough
Recorder and storage. The 16-channel 4K NVR ships with a 4TB drive, and ZOSI says it supports a drive of up to 8TB. With ten cameras connected, six inputs are left for later. Recording can be manual, scheduled or motion-triggered, and playback offers instant, normal, event and alarm modes.
Cameras. Each dome records 4MP at 2560×1440 through a fixed lens with a 90° view. The housings are rated IP66 and mount on a wall or a ceiling, so they work under an eave, over a garage door or in a stockroom.
Night vision. An IR-cut filter keeps daytime color natural, then the cameras switch to infrared at night. ZOSI rates the range at 100ft, and the picture after dark is black and white.
Alerts and search. AI detection separates people and vehicles from other movement. You draw detection zones per camera, add privacy masks over areas you shouldn't record, and get app or email alerts with a snapshot. Event search filters footage by person, vehicle or motion.
Audio and apps. Every dome has a microphone and speaker for two-way talk. Remote viewing runs through the ZOSI Smart app on a phone and the AVSS client on a PC or tablet, with no monthly fee. The NVR keeps recording and shows live video on a monitor even without an internet connection.
Key specs
- 16-channel 4K NVR; ten 4MP (2560×1440) audio PoE domes; 4TB drive, up to 8TB supported.
- 100ft infrared night vision, 90° view, IP66.
- AI person and vehicle detection, custom zones, privacy masks.
- Two-way talk through each dome.
- H.265+ compression; ZOSI Smart app and AVSS client, no monthly fee.
Who it fits
Homes and small shops that can run Ethernet to each mounting point, want local recording rather than a cloud plan, and prefer discreet domes under eaves and porch roofs. It also suits buyers who expect to add cameras, since six channels are open from day one.
Who should skip
Skip it if one camera needs to sweep a whole driveway: the ZOSI C296 8CH 6×5MP Pan-Tilt Kit turns and tracks instead. If running cable isn't possible, the solar C291 4×4MP Solar Wireless PT needs none. For 8MP on every view, look at the C220 8CH 4K PoE, 8×8MP Audio, 2TB.
Pros
- Six free channels after install.
- Records locally and keeps working without internet.
- Event search by person, vehicle or motion shortens playback.
Cons
- Night video is black and white.
- Ten cable runs take time to plan and pull.
- Fixed 90° lenses leave corners uncovered unless you aim carefully.
FAQ
How many cameras can I add?
Six. The recorder has sixteen channels and the kit fills ten. ZOSI says the NVR works best with its own PoE cameras and that other brands may not be compatible, and each one connects by Ethernet.
Does it need the internet?
Only for remote viewing and alerts. The NVR records and shows live video on a connected monitor without it.
C220 or C296?
Many fixed views on a house: C220. Open driveways and yards where a camera should follow movement: C296. The C220 Fixed Domes vs C296 Pan-Tilt comparison goes through both.
Will it work with WiFi cameras?
No. It is a wired PoE system and every camera connects by Ethernet. For indoor rooms, a separate WiFi camera such as the C518 runs in the ZOSI Smart app alongside it.
Is there a subscription?
No. ZOSI says viewing in the app and the AVSS client has no added fees, and footage stays on the kit's own drive.
